SRC Providers Investing in the Community

Jefferson Telecom Technician Dave Dideriksen
was recently congratulated for 12 years with the company.

NTCA’s SRC providers are always going above and beyond to forge local stakeholder connections that will lift the entire community. Here are a few recent standouts!

Main Street revitalization: Congratulations to Jefferson Telecom! Jefferson, Iowa—a town in Jefferson Telecom’s service area—recently received a Great American Main Street Award, which recognizes communities that have achieved excellence in commercial district revitalization.

One of only three winners, Jefferson won the award for investing in public art programs that transformed the town’s main street and renewed the economic state of local businesses. Jefferson Telecom’s broadband helped enable economic growth of the businesses—but the provider sees its role in the community connections as so much more than providing telecommunications services. Jefferson Telecom has always placed a high priority on being active in economic developments in Jefferson and Greene County.

“When we first saw the concept for the Main Street program, we knew we wanted to be a big financial contributor,” said Jamie Daubendiek, Jefferson Telecom general manager. “We particularly liked that it was a structured program with state and national support. It has been incredible to see the transformation the Main Street program has created for Jefferson.”

Using loans to boost local economic development: Nex-Tech (Lenora, Kan.)  recently loaned $100,000 to support 1872 Restaurant and Events in opening an Italian restaurant for the Stockton, Kansas, community. The loan was made possible through the Nex-Tech Revolving Loan Fund, which provides funds to eligible local businesses to create employment and contribute to sustaining the local economy. The loans are a testament to Nex-Tech’s commitment to making life better for its customers and communities.

“Nex-Tech is always looking out for businesses and entrepreneurs wanting to start or grow their businesses within our service area in northwest and central Kansas,” said Friday Otuya, Nex-Tech community engagement specialist. “We currently have over a million dollars in our revolving loan fund and want to get these to our local businesses who need them.”
